Gardening Question Diane Fayman Winterizing plants I purchased Roberta's Exotic Banana plant through QVC and it is doing extremely well and I am in zone 5 (Omaha NE) and we are preparing for a frost this wk.end and I would like info on how to winterize it. Please let me know what I need to do, as this plant is now reaching about 4-5 ft. and I don't want to lose it. I absolutely love it. Thank you. Keep them in the most sunny place possible indoors, as they do not do well in too much shade. Some suggest supplementing window light with a grow light if no sunny window are available. Indoors, your banana will be very attractive, but flowers and fruit are not likely unless you have a hothouse. It has a long stem and the flowers gather at the top (there are about 50+ pods). The three bottom pods have opened up to reveal flowers that are very much like lillies in appearance. They are a light green colour. I am happy to accept it is a lillie, except that it is a single stem, with no leaves across the stem, and the number of pods for flowers is huge, something I have never seen on a lilly before.
