Location / Where this Creature is found:

This picture was taken at the Portland International Rose Test Garden in Portland, Oregon during the month of June. It is found all over North America.

Description

The adults of this species are black to metallic green with 3 yellow bands across the abdomen. The face is yellowish with black cheeks. The body is between 912 mm in length.
The larvae are considered mature when they reach 11mm in length. They appear yellow-white to salmon brown, with black and white or yelllow and white markings.

General information about Hoverfly :

The larvae from these insects feed on aphids and scale insects and, for this reason, are being considered as biological control agents.
