Would like to know what it is and if it's toxic to dogs. It was found in my son's yard in northwest Georgia.

What is this?

I believe this is a Ganoderma Lucidum. It is used as a Chinese medicinal herb and can be bought in health food stores. The common name you will find for it is Linghzi. As far as poison to dogs it's hard to say. What's good for people is not always good for dogs. You can go to mushroomobserver.com and search for Ganoderma and I believe you will find similar photos that will identify it as such.

It looks like a type of Ascocarp. Maybe a Microglossum, or Neolecta.

I'm not very sure yet, so I would keep dogs etc at bay.
