common lawn mushroom
common lawn mushroom September 06, 2010
EXTREMELY TOXIC. The caps look similar to mushrooms in the genus Psilocybe, particularly the Psilocybe cyanescens and the Psilocybe subaeruginosa. They contain amatoxins which are highly toxic to the liver. common lawn mushroom

Bird's Nest Fungus
  Bird's Nest Fungus September 05, 2010
I hope I've got the correct identification here. I found another website with information on bird's nest fungi, but the listed scientific name is Cyathus olla. So I am not quite sure how I can tell which one is which. That website is: [[]]http://waynesword.palomar.edu/pljune96.htm[[]] These are named bird's nest fungi because of their nest-like appearance. They are commonly found containing peridioles, small seed-like structures containing the spores necessary for reproduction. When they land Bird's Nest Fungus

Fairy Ink Cap
Fairy Ink Cap August 23, 2010
This one is classified as edible. I have heard, however, that it doesn't taste all that great. The Coprinus genus is often confused with the Galerina, which is deadly. So DO NOT INGEST these if you find them growing unless you have them identified by a professional who knows EXACTLY how to tell the difference. Fairy Ink Cap

Destroying Angel?????
  Destroying Angel????? August 02, 2010
Started with one last year. Neighbor warned it could be an Amanita (Destroying Angel). This year in early July, 3-4 popped up (Picture of opened mushrooom and mushroom with hand to show size. Now (August 1) nine more have popped up. (some hiding in Hosta). Does this look like an Amanita or does anyone have any other ideas? They are very beautiful, but I am worried about our pets and daughter. If they are poisonous how do we stop them from taking over? Thanks! Destroying Angel?????

According to what I have read this is commonly called the Hemlock Varnish Mushroom. It is of the Reishi family and evidently has medicinal qualities. http://mushroom-collecting.com/mushroomreishi.html Hemlock Reishi Mushroom
