the leaves have 3 main parts, each resemble the shape of an oak leaf, they alternate up the stem, the flowers look similiar to a small hibiscus or mallow but the leaves don't match any images I've found, before it flowers it is a large tear drop shaped pod that has about 4 dark hairy lines per petal section of the pod, after the flower is done this pod is open with small black seeds white flower with dark red/maroon center

Grass Tree
 Grass Tree May 19, 2012 1534
The Aboriginal people of Australia had a range of uses of the Grass Tree. The tall flower stem was used as a lightweight spear for fishing etc. Flowers can be dunked into water to produce a sweet drink. The white base of the leaves can be eaten and have a rather bland sweetish-starch taste. [[]]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xanthorrhoea[[]] Grass Tree

When i first moved into my house about 6 years ago i went under it and found this strange, awesome mushroom. It never grew, just stayed the same, i don't know how long it was there before i moved in. Theres a tarp over the ground where it grew so i dont know if theres wood or soil under it. And its been there for 6 years until yesterday because it got knocked over sadly. Its a foot long. In Chinese medicine it is called jīn yín huā and has "antitoxin, anti-bacterial, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties", used in treatment of "fevers, skin rashes, and sore throat"(Wikipedia). The gopher tortoise is an endangered and protected species. (As far as Florida goes.) They can weigh about 30 pounds and can grow up to about a foot long. They live in dry areas where they dig holes in the ground to live in, (burrows), which also provide shelter for many other species of animals as well. Such as the Indigo Snake (also listed under my animals.) They have a live span of about 100 ye Gopher Tortoise

They dine on plant sap using special mouth parts. They're a little like vampires, but not as scary. They are, however, considered to be a vector species, along with some others in the genera. They harbor a pathogen known as Xylella fastidiosa, which is the cause of many leaf scorch diseases endemic to the Americas including California, Texas and Brazil. Sisyrinchium is native to sand plain prairies, one of the world's most imperiled ecotypes. Places like Cape Cod or the Jersey Pine Barrens are delicate ecosystems home to this and many other rare and endangered species. Amerindians used root tea for diarrhea (in children); plant tea for worms, stomachaches. Several species used as laxatives. (Foster & Duke) The root is astringent. An infusion Blue Eyed Grass
