Help with Pink, Four Petal Flower?
Hi, I tried to use the flower identification to figure out exactly what this is, but I am at a loss. It stands at about 36 inches tall and the leaves are a lot like an iris.
These are growing in the yard next door to me. My neighbor moved out and the owner of the house said it is fine to get any of the flowers since no one is there to take care of them. I really love these and weeds are starting to take over, so I want to find out whatever I can before grabbing them. They seem to be very hardy as we had one of our coldest winters and there was no one taking care of anything in the yard.

Just found that, if you go to the 'Add' section above left and then scroll down, filling in information on the way, down to 'Save' at the bottom, then you can upload photos to your 'identification' page. Hope that helps.

I have a plant that produces large red, 5-petal flowers. First comes the pods, then the flowers bloom for 1 day, close up, and then die. There are multiples blooming one after another for months approx. from July-Oct. They multiply every year, and they are gorgeous. Hope someone can help me with this.

I have found tree leaves on the ground with white and purple towers they protrude up and are flat on the top. My concern is I have planted an extensive garden and more than that I have a dog who is like a kid to me. Any ideas on what this is and is it dangerous? One more thing this just started growing in my yard this year as well, there are small red berries that are growing through my clover they almost look like a strawberry but they are circular again I rescued my dog from the ASPCA and want to have him around for a long time.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to read and reply.
Sincerely,

Vin

Not sure if you'll get this, but it might be some filtering issue with your email. They usually approve these accounts after you post here, so try to log in, if it doesn't work, post here again.

I thought maybe they were eggs or a fungus but, can not seem to find anything on such...any ideas as to what it is? I live in the mid atlantic area.

When I lived in Houma,Louisiana my grandmother had a tree or big bush in her yard and it produced a flower that was shaped like a miniature banana and smelled heavenly. I have't been able to find out the name of it, no one seems to know. Can you help me out?

No way that Bird of Paradise looks like a miniature banana, I've seen those up close. It ain't the Citronella - doesn't smell that good. If it looks like a PEELED mini banana, then it has to be a type of honeysuckle. I've got a couple next to my house. It's smell competes with the Lily of the Valley - it's wonderful!
gardengeek
I could only guess. Here are some names to plug into Google images. Chamaecrista fasciculata Mina Citronella Dicentra scandens Bird-of-Paradise

Why is trying to upload a flower image so frustratingly difficult. There is no pathway to doing this. I had thought that this might be a site worth joining, but now I am not so sure. You really ought to make things easier for us. (see my previous identification query).

It is difficult right now, I guess they are planning a few revisions this spring, so we'll see... The trick is to have an image sized down to 800 pixels or less, then click the Add tab, then click the Add Plant link, then scroll down to almost the bottom and press Save. Besides that problem, it's a pretty fun place to learn about plants. If you have any questions etc. let me know.
