Does anyone know of sources for information on harvesting useful parts of Daisy Fleabane? I'm finding a lot of information on how it was used, but not how people use it now... Thanks!

I use it to ward off bugs by just rubbing it on my skin, fresh off of the plant. What were you wanting to use it for? |

I am trying to identify this very distinctive flower. It has five petals, smoky-purple in color, with large, pod-like seeds in the center. See link to image. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=503289336389977&set=a.265141876871392.79885.250651641653749&type=1&relevant_count=1

I have a plant that I purchased at a small greenhouse that they did not know the name of. They said it was from the cacti family but I cannot find any info or pictures of this plant. It has thick smooth rounded leaves. I kept it outside all summer and brought it in before the first freeze. Since bringing it in it has shot up over a foot with blooms (?)that look like seeds at the top but a small plant is growing from the roots.

This is a large plant, with leaves that almost look like weed, but farther apart. They grow this odd looking pod and this beautiful Red flower pops out (VERY large flowers too). But, they only bloom for one day, close up, and die. Does anyone have any idea what this flower could be? As I am new to this site I haven't figured out how to post pictures. But if you'd like to see please message me and I can show you!

Hi - I'd appreciate any help in identifying a flower / flowering shrub. I don't see a way to attach a pic here so I'll try to describe. Flowers are purple. It is in a pot and grown 12-24 inches tall. Lower stem is brown and woody, upper part is green. Leaves are smooth and a little shiny. Multiple purple petals are at stem end and have little sticky feet kind of things. Horrible description I know. Can I send or upload a pic somehow? Thank you!

I'm trying to identify a plant which appeared in my garden this spring. It has small yellow flowers similar to a buttercup, is about 2-3 feet tall. It has long thin stringy irregular shaped stems, and a 3-4" leaf with jagged edges and three leaves per cluster. The leaf groups all appear near the lower third of the plant. If you can tell me how, I can send a picture if that would help. Thank you very much for any help you can provide. SuzanneC

My secret to plant/weed control is newspaper. Pull out/cut back as much of the plant you can then cover the area with a thick layer of newspaper and leave for a few months. You can even pile up a whole lot of leaf litter under the newspaper and you will be left with a nice rich compost for growing new plants in. :) |

Most asters are extremely bug resistant and are used to keep bugs away. Besides butterfly larva, there aren't many insects that will eat an aster. The best way that I know is to pull them out by hand. |

I do not know much about plants, except for which ones I like, so this may be a tedious answer. Firstly, we live in USDA zone 5, and the flower in question has already come and gone. I have been living is this house for two years now, and this flower is always the first to bloom, the snow was still on the ground this year when it came up. I did not plant our flower garden, it consists of perenials which were here when we moved in, all we do is mow the lawn, but recently I have taken an interest in gardening, and have identified somme of the flowers the previous owner planted, including may many tulips, lilacs, damask violets, hydrangeas of unknown variety, bleeding hearts, daylilies, etc. On to the flower in question. It blooms in early spring, once again, we are in USDA zone 5, and this plant begins to wilt as asoon as the sun comes out full blast. She lasts about a week, a soft pink color, the flowers are similar in configuration to snapdragons, or maybe foxglove, or gladiolus, on a single stalk, which is quite sturdy until the sun comes out in full force. The leaves are long, thin smooth leaves, no teeth or hair, similar to the leaves on the daylilies (if I recall correctly, daylilies have yet to bloom this year). And that is all I remember of it. It really is beautiful when it blooms, I would love to know what she is so I can plant some on the other side of our home, which I think will be more appropriate, as she will get more shade there and may last longer. Thank you for your efforts! (also, if i could see a picture I would surely be able to identify it!)

I have a plant that is a shrub. It has thick leaves around it like a lily would but has 4 stalks growing out of it. I have a second plant just like this but the stalks are not as tall. on the top of the stalk which they range in height (6inches- 2 1/2 foot) there is an orange/peach colored flower that seems to be blooming (4-6inches of flowers). My friend said it was a yucca but ive been looking at photos and it doesnt seem to match up.

Most indoor plants can be grown outdoors depending on the local climate. Calla Lilies do well in a sunny to partly shaded garden bed and require minimal care. |
