General Information

The arugula (Eruca sativa), also called mustard Persian, is a vegetable originating from regions close to the Mediterranean. The same was widely used in the Roman Empire as an aphrodisiac. Currently, the rocket is very popular in Italy and used in many typical Italian dishes, as in Brazil, it is consumed in the southern region.
Rudbeckia belongs to the family Cruciferae, the same as turnip, cabbage, broccoli, etc.. The vegetable has elongated leaves and can measure between 10 to 15 cm tall. When grown during the cold months, it has a spicier flavor, because when planting is done in warmer seasons, the rocket has a strong flavor and bitter.
The vegetable is rich in vitamins A and C, besides being a good source of minerals such as calcium, iron, sulfur and potassium, and omega 3. Due to their low calorie (one cup contains only 12 calories), it is recommended to be part of most diets. The rocket can also stimulate appetite.
Due to its bitter taste and strong, the use of vegetable in cooking is somewhat restricted to heavier dishes. However, it can also be steamed, used in salads or as a filling pizza. Its juice combined with the watercress provides a great detoxifying the body. The rocket is also indicated for the treatment of gingivitis.
The vegetables are sold in packs. At the time of purchase, we recommend you choose rocket firm, shiny, and see if their stems are not broken, as well as the leaves fade more easily.

SESSION OF PHOTOS - HOW I planted.
The seeds are small, here in Brazil it is like buying some seeds of vegetables with ease, as was the case of seed of Eruca sativa.

Separated a small amount of seed and created a nursery, a small bowl with little land to develop the first phase of growth in Eruca sativa.

I left the ground a depth of 2cm and put the seeds.

Then have them develop their first and small green leaves and a size of 5 cm and moved it to the final vessel growth.

I continued my daily process of water one (1) time per day. In days of very hot, sprinkle a see of a morning and night.

You'll notice the adult stage when the branches grow longer staying in a size 15 to 25 cm. The rocket sativa, a rectangular vase like mine need a space for each of 6 seed in 6 cm for each seed (this in nursery pot). After about 40 days you can already appreciate and enjoy these delicious arugula rocket sativa. Bon Appetite!
