General Information

The Claretcup Cactus is a species of Hedgehog Cactus known by several common names, including Strawberry Cactus, Kingcup Cactus, King's Crown Cactus, Claret Cup, and Mojave Mound Cactus.
There is a thick nectar chamber and many thready pink stamens at the center of the corolla. The flowers are pollinated by hummingbirds.

The red flowers are diurnal, opening for 2 or 3 days. These flowers give rise to a red and juicy fruit, with deciduous spines.
