The fruit may taste extremely bitter and may be toxic to some people. Once cooked however, it is indeed edible.
This plant can grow up to 12 feet in one year.
To get the berries off of the umbrel, freeze them and they will fall off. Don't eat any of the stem etc, it is toxic.
The seeds of the red elderberry are toxic.
The black elderberry can be eaten raw. It needs to be completely raw, or it will be toxic.
When the little white flowers are pollenated, the tiny petals bend all the way back, leaving the stamen exposed.
