I found this in Costa Rica on the Pacific Coast area just north of Manuel Antonio at a Coffee Plantation Tour. It was obviously planted there as it was part of their landscape design. However, no one there (staff or visitors) could tell me what it is. The "puff" balls are very soft and appear to be hollow, the spines(?) appear to be sharp but they are soft and bendable. Cannot find any information about this. It was March 7, 2010 when I took the pictures.
