General Information

They were introduced to China and Mongolia by the Turkish Empire and eventually made their way to the Netherlands several hundreds years ago. One of the most important original species, this one has been cultivated in Holland since 1590, which means from the very beginning.

The bulb and the flowers have been known to cause dermatitis in sensitive people, though up to 5 bulbs a day can be eaten without ill-effect

Probably the best-known wild tulip, Tarda is becoming so popular, it was named "Flower Bulb of the Year" in Holland for 1997, the only species bulb ever honored with the title

Oddly, when I bought the bulbs they were mostly the yellow and white ones, but there were a few of the other color combos in it. I purchased them at Lowes
