Hypericaceae Hypericum Hypericum perforatum Herbal treatment for mild forms of depression. Previously been classified as Guttiferae or Clusiaceae. Approximately 370 species of the genus Hypericum exist worldwide. The common name comes from its traditional harvesting on Saint John's day, 24 June. Hypericum is derived from the Greek words hyper (above) and eikon (picture) Perforatum refers to the small oil glands in the leaves that look like holes, which can be seen when they are held against the St. John's Wort - Unknown
