The Aboriginal people of Australia had a range of uses of the Grass Tree. The tall flower stem was used as a lightweight spear for fishing etc. Flowers can be dunked into water to produce a sweet drink. The white base of the leaves can be eaten and have a rather bland sweetish-starch taste. [[]]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xanthorrhoea[[]] Grass Tree

Looks similar to a fern. Apparently the juices of this plant was used to execute Socrates by the Athenians. It is a member of the Carrot family, and sometimes emmits a foul odor. Take caution when removing, wear washable gloves. Poison Hemlock

Although their subtropical cousins are very frost-sensitive, Sempervivums are among the most frost-resistant succulents, making them popular garden plants. They require only moderate water and some protection from extreme exposure to the sun. Sempervivums grow very well in dry conditions. Despite this if Sempervivums are grown in normal flower beds among other cultivated plants there can be a problem. If the flower beds are not particularly dry other plants may grow more strongly than the Semper Houseleek
