Slime Molds aren't as toxic as most fungus, but depending on pesticides, heavy metals or other pollutants, they can be.
I would remove any "attractive" looking fungus or slime molds from the baby's area.

I work in a day care and we have the orange round fungus on the playgound. Will this hurt the babies if they put it in their mouth?

It doesn't hurt anything as long as it's not covering it. They will go away in a few days usually. Its a fungus/slime mold that grows on wood, like bedding mulch, heavy rains causes its growth, do not scrape it ~ it will spread if spores are broken~ it will go away in a few days maybe a week.

It looks like a type of slime mold. It doesn't hurt anything as long as it's not covering it. They will go away in a few days usually.
