If you are gardening enthusiasts, you will know that not only do you have to keep the plants in good condition. Regulating the amount of water, fertilizer and sun that they receive daily is part of the basic tasks, but when you have a garden it is not enough. Pest problems do not take long to make their appearance, and the first of these are usually ants. Next we will give you some tips to eliminate ants from your garden.

How to remove ants from the garden?

Observing ants walking on plants is often a bad indicator as to the healthy development of an orchard. In the worst case, accompanied by other pests or alone, they can cause enough damage to leave you without flowers or fruits. Eliminating ants thus becomes an important task if you want to keep your crops until you harvest them.

The easy way to get rid of them and other pests is to buy specialized pesticides to exterminate them. However, virtually all pesticides are toxic to human health. As if that were not enough, in one way or another they are also counterproductive for the development of the plants in our garden. They can cause different adverse side effects than what we hope to achieve with them. For this reason, we have compiled some more ecological and healthy alternatives for human beings, which will allow you to eliminate ants without unwanted collateral results.

Methods to eliminate ants from the garden

There are many different types of ants in the world. These methods can be used to combat most of them.

  • Garlic: Garlic is a powerful insect repellent, able to drive away ants. Grinding a head of garlic with some sweet cloves and two glasses of water until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Let it rest for a day and then add 3 more liters of water. The final mix can be sprayed directly onto plants with no adverse effects.
  • Lemon juice: Squeezing the necessary lemons, it can be applied directly with a cotton ball or sprayed on the plant. Or through the areas where ants commonly pass, scaring them away.
  • Vinegar: Vinegar can be sprayed on plants achieving the same effect, but it should not be used on the ground. Well, it acidifies the soil, which is counterproductive for its fertility.
  • Cinnamon: Sprinkling cinnamon all over the places where the ants pass, and even the entrance of the anthill, can be an excellent method of getting rid of them. It is a fairly ecological way, but you have to be constant and do it every day until they decide to leave, because they greatly dislike it.
  • Yeast: Add the powdered yeast to a little water and mix with sugar. As the yeast ferments, the ants will die from the gases emitted by the fermentation.
  • Copper: If you place small plates on the trunk of the trees, the ants will not climb there, as they hate this mineral. It also works with copper threads around smaller plants.
  • Lavender: With an infusion of 300 grams of lavender in a liter of water, letting it cool, you can spray it on the attacked plants. It is a very effective anti-repellent.

As you can see, there are environmentally friendly methods through which we can get rid of the pests that afflict our orchards. In emergencies you can use pesticides, but you have to take into account the potential damage that it can cause not only to the garden but also to your selves. That is why we recommend these more ecological methods, with which we hope you have learned how to effectively eliminate ants from your garden.
