What do you need to take care of a Petunia?

  • Petunias.
  • Pot, hanging basket or planter.
  • Water -irrigator or hose to water-.
  • Manure-fertilizer.
  • Insecticides -if you need-.

Instructions for caring for a Petunia

  1. First of all, we must be very clear about where to place the Petunia. To do this, you must bear in mind that we are talking about a flower that allows different locations, since it is very resistant. We recommend that in the case of putting it on a balcony or a terrace, you place it in a hanging basket, since it favors them a lot. Even so, keep in mind that they must be well protected from the rain and also from the wind. Now, if you can place it in a garden, opt for a larger pot or planter, as this will have more space to grow.
  2. Continuing with the theme of location, you must bear in mind that the distance between them must exceed at least 25 centimeters, since otherwise they will not have enough space to grow. In this line, keep in mind that when the stems begin to drag on the ground, it will be time to prune them. Also keep in mind that they are plants that do not require very fertile soils, although a well-drained soil is recommended.
  3. For its good conservation and the optimal growth of your Petunia, you should try not to wet its flowers when watering, since its petals are really sensitive to water and wither easily. Therefore, if past flowers appear, you must cut them so that they do not pass it on to the other flowers.
  4. As far as irrigation is concerned, Petunias need daily and abundant watering -especially during the flowering that occurs in spring and summer-? As we said, it is important not to wet the flowers when watering and also not to do it during the sunniest hours. Thus, if possible try to water your Petunias in the late
  5. Along these same lines, keep in mind that you will have to pay it once a week. In this case, do it from spring to late summer. To do this, we recommend that you use any fertilizer rich in phosphorus, as this will make it grow more vigorously.
  6. Taking into account the light and the ideal temperature that they require, we recommend that you place them in a place with lots of light. It would be highly recommended that they be in full sun, since with sunlight they will grow better. Try that the temperature to which they are exposed is high in summer and mild in winter, since they do not usually withstand strong cold or frost. In the same way, it is recommended that they grow in a dry climate, since, as we said, rain is detrimental to their flowers
  7. Lastly, we recommend that you take special care with pests, since the most common in petunias are aphids and whiteflies. Both are combated with insecticides.

Tips for Caring for a Petunia

  • We recommend that if the place is not covered, you choose one of the varieties that better resist rain, such as Petunia Multiform.
  • Keep in mind that there are Petunias of different colors -pink, red, blue, yellow, violet or with stripes in two colors-, with smooth and wavy edges, etc. Therefore, choose the one that best suits your preferences and tastes. In addition, you should know that the height of the Petunia ranges between 30 and 50 centimeters and it grows in clumps;  thus, appreciate that they can be used to form borders and flower beds in your garden or terrace.
  • Finally, we encourage you to combine the Petunia with other plants and flowers that suit your home and decoration. All in all, you can create a cheerful and lively atmosphere in your outdoor areas of the house.
